Allison in Africa

I have been to Kenya three times, totaling nearly twelve months from 2003-2008. This blog is filled with a few of my thoughts, stories and pictures from my second and third trips (January-March 2006 and May-August 2008), mainly around Kitale and Mt. Elgon in the Rift Valley Province.

Ndura's Kitale Nature Conservancy

Mr. Ndura took a swampy piece of land no one else wanted, planted a bunch of trees on it, made some paths, collected a motley assortment of funny-looking animals, and came up with a great little tourist attraction/ conference facility just outside of town. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=yU3u8Qq5H0U

It was raining on and off that day, so there were not many people... we tested out these Sponge-Bob ponchos Mike had the foresight to bring with him from Canada. As you can see, it effectively transforms us back and forth into a cartoon character :)
Even new bridges looked in the same condition as this old one. They just don't build with the precision here.
I love Grey-Crowned Cranes! There were also a few sadder and more confined ostriches there.
Part two of the nature conservancy, arguable the most famous part, is the collection of animals no farmer wants. After seeing all these animals, and also seeing all the garbage consumed by animals, Mike decided to not eat meat while in Kenya.

A goat with three legs (above) and five legs (below).
And a cow.. with four horns and three eyes... or was it four eyes and three horns? In any case, it was a crazy thing to see.

I have been there once, what I saw was good, the place is a home for livestock deemed to be a curse by farmers.
The place is well organized and truly portrays how nature opt to be. Will come back there before the year ends, I enjoyed the scenery.
One more thing that needs to be done; those trails, please maintain them properly and regularly check for any repairs

the place is spectacular and a great learning laboratory,i nust say it's a place where one can learn the beauty in diversity,go to the caves and you will wish you are locked in tht naturel environment thanks to Mr. Ndura for his constant reservation on the naturel environment.

I have not been to the place but generally through the internet display I suggest it is the best place for exploring nature and undertaking a research.
